A CHANCE AT THE BASEBALL HALL OF FAME

It’s the last stretch of waiting with bated breath for the closing of the votes for this year’s Baseball Hall of Fame awards by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. Set to be revealed on January 12 is the name of the newest member of the league to be elevated to the Hall of Fame. A long list of 23 contenders, both old-timers and new, is contained in a Hall of Fame ballot where members of the BBWAA are supposed to cast their votes. The first ever election to the Hall of Fame was done in 1936 with only five ball players registering the required number of votes. In June 12, 1939, these five players which include Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Christy Mathewson, and Walter Johnson were inducted along with several others in three subsequent Hall of Fame elections were honored with the opening of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York.
